Via View From the Wing, I found out that there is a change.org petition to change the name of Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport’s Terminal 1 from Lindbergh Terminal to Prince Rogers Nelson Terminal.
This is a great idea for many reasons, but I will highlight only two:
- Prince is undeniably awesome. Musically. Culturally. Socially. Plus, when work seems glacial, I like to throw this jam on and watch him eat the world for inspiration.
- Charles Lindbergh is a disgustingly racist, anti-Semitic piece of shit. Here’s a choice quote from a 1939 Reader’s Digest essay of his: “It is time to turn from our quarrels and to build our White ramparts again. This alliance with foreign races means nothing but death to us. It is our turn to guard our heritage from Mongol and Persian and Moor, before we become engulfed in a limitless foreign sea.” Fuck you, Lindy.
If the petition was solely to rename Lindbergh Terminal to say, I don’t know, Lake Minnetonka Terminal, it would be valid and just. To permanently remember decent and loving genius is an even better reason.
So, sign the petition and let’s hope something happens!
